Beyond Free Trade: Alternatives for EU-Asia relations?: Invitation to Dialogue in European Parliament


In the context of the Asia-Europe Summit (ASEM), which takes place in Brussels on October 4 and 5, GUE/NGL and Greens/EFA kindly invite you to the conference:

"Beyond Free Trade: Alternatives for EU-Asia relations"?

Civil Society organisations, NGOs Asian MPs and MEPs discuss the social, economic and ecological impacts of EU trade policy in Asia and debate the challenges for the future.

Guest Speakers include:

Members of Parliament in Asia

  • Walden Bello, Author and MP/Akbayan - Representative of the Philippine Congress, Bello was awarded the Right Livelihood Award (also known as the Alternative Nobel Prize) in 2003 for "... outstanding efforts in educating civil society about the effects of corporate globalisation".
  • Charles Santiago, Democratic Action Party – Representative of the Malaysian Parliament – economist, author and regular contributor to newspapers and magazines.

CSO Representatives of Trade Campaigns: Korea, India & ASEAN and Europe.

With the participation of several Members European Parliament, among them:

  • Helmut Scholz, coordinator of INTA Committee for the GUE/NGL
